Generic-Imitation
I've seen some videos of kiters with the footage coming from the kites. This is just freakin awsome in my opinion. Anyhow my question arises from some of the videos have a black box outlining the camera... its probably a waterproof box for the camera im sure... where would i go about finding some gear to attach a camera to my kite as well as waterproffing my camera?

anyone with experience with cameras on their kites let me know what kind of camera you used, like digital video, dvd recorder or whatever... i need to get a camera to do my "Kite Across America" video. I'm down here in GA and moving to Hawaii, so I thought I'd kite here, FL, Michigan where I'm from and Cali when I get there and of course end up in Hawaii on Oahu.

it seems like this rig is working for that. thought it only shoots 15fps.

what rig?[/list]

I launched a guy named Jerome at metro on tuesday and he had a setup just like ur describing- a waterproof digital camera that slid into a black harness attatched to the center strut tight against the leading edge. Seemed like a cool idea but never talked to him to see what kind if footage he got.
good luck!!

thanks!! looks like a simple setup. im gonna investigate that a little bit
jerome
I have all the stuff in fact.
the camera is a pentax optio w20 and the case is coming from camrig.com
You need a 4Gb SD card to record 1 hour video 640*480 and 30fps
which is not so bad. the camera is waterproof and I planned also to
attach it to my helmet...
I have made my first attempt last week in Buxton... half an hour
with 25 knts and 12m....
here is the beginning of the first montage : http://video.google.fr/videoplay?docid=8063486011190977783

Wednesday, I have try another test... but I seems I have turn the camera off by mistake... snifff..
Tomorrow, I planned to go to Harsen for some other footage !

awsome, the video quality looks great. it is a small package and seems to fit on most kites... THANKS FOR THE INFO!

Actually, I was looking for the box that keeps the camera in the upright position. I have seen several videos with it, and in the videos i've seen there is like a black box around the perimeter of the screen that moves like the camera is on some kind of swivel joint.
BizB
That's stabilization software, not an actual box.

There's information on various programs that accomplish something similar at the same site linked above. http://www.camrig.com/FAQ.php#videoStab

The black-box outline is an effect that you can apply when processing the video.

One of the main issue when you use this camrig is that your camera has a correct orientation (up/down) only in one direction. in the other direction, it is flipped. so you need to be able by software to flip the movie back.
And it needs some more advanced software than the one you can easily get.
I have just start to work on it.

argh, thats a cool little example of stablized video in that FAQ. thanks for the info BizB

If i need software i just type www.demonoid.com or use the freeware vdub.. its easy to use.

thanks for the info about the software, lol i thought it was some huge ass box on my kite. ~.~
