King of the Great Lakes '06
location: Grand Haven State Park
when: September 7-10

Events:
Men's Freestyle
Women's Freestyle
Top Gun Speed Run

Registration is open to all kiteboarders, including non-competitors.

Registration Fee $25 (before September 4)
$40 (September 4 or later)

Non-Competitors:
Even if you don't want to compete, you can still register. The fee includes dinner at the Awards Ceremony at the Kirby on Saturday and an event t-shirt. Otherwise for t-shirt only it is $15 and $25 for the Awards Ceremony dinner. So, basically if you want to join the kiteboarders for a good time at the Kirby, you might as well register early and get a free shirt.

The registration form will be on our website on Friday.

Freestyle Event:
Standard heat format. If more than 32 riders register we will run preliminaries. Preliminaries will run Thursday if needed. Main event kicks off at 11:00 am Friday morning. Sunday will be a make up day if needed.

Top Gun Speed Run:
Who will be the fastest kiteboarder at the King of the Great Lakes?
Riders will be given a GPS and two 15 minute riding periods to produce the "fastest recorded speed" on their GPS. 4 GPS units will be available. Event starts Thursday at 1:00 pm.
The winner is whoever records the fastest speed in miles per hour. NOT average speed.

Rules for Speed Run:
*Registered riders will be given up to 2 chances (15 minutes each) to produce the fastest speed on their GPS unit. They will be given the GPS, from our Top Gun judge, prior to getting on the water.
*We will have a judge available Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to give you a GPS and to time your 15 minute time span. If the wind is light all weekend, we may extend into Sunday.
*You will have 2 opportunities throughout the weekend to clock your best speed.
*Your second run must be at least 30 minutes after your first run.
*If you have already done one run, riders with no runs will be given precedent to use of their GPS unit.
*Runs over 18 minutes will be disqualified. You can still keep your first run speed or take your second run.
*Any rider keeping their GPS for over 25 minutes will be disqualified from both runs. If there is a crash that holds up your return, the judge will make the final decision on disqualification.
*There will be NO RIDING in the freestyle competition area - please be considerate.
*Riders are responsible for getting their runs done. Please don't expect "special treatment".

Strategy in using your runs will be very important. So chose wisely!
