Dudes, I uploaded about half the photos of the KOGL contest from Sunday. I reduced the size to one fifth for easy upload/download and didn't post process any of them. Hopefully I will have the rest uploaded by the end of the week.

Here's a sweet railey with a grab from the first heat as GS, Karl and one other guy are coming in for the judges. Unfortunately, he didn't land it and all three of them got screwed. But it made for great photo!!!!

Regarding Southerly thermal "pulls" through central Lake Michigan, I am wondering if anyone has any input on the similarity or difference between Sheboygan, Wisconsin and Little Sable Point in Michigan. They are both about equal distance along the lake. Being from Chicago, I would rather shorten my drive by 2 hours if possible instead of driving around the bottom of the lake, to shoot straight north on this side. Has anyone ridden both places regularly that could make a comparison on if the winds are roughly the same, or not? TIA

Please refer to the new rules if you are riding at Montrose. Let's spread the word and keep our good standing with the City of Chicago intact! The beach image is for reference. Please refer to the link for full riding instructions and additional Chicago-area beaches and lakes.

Hi, I just wanted all to have the current news on the ban proposed for Chicago. The ban is in place. They did this without any meeting and postponed our meeting/conference call until after the beaches opened to get the signs up. So now it is harder to deal with, but we are making progress.

Many many hours are being put into this by a select crew from Chicago. Special thanks to Mike, Tim, Paul and Terry.

The current situation is that we have met with the Chicago Park District (CPD) and they have basically concerns. They apparently understand there have been no injuries, but recognize the need for them to defend themselves should an accident occur.

A set of proposed rules/certification is in the final stages (after a few hundred emails between us all). I think most Chicago-native kiters see this as a good thing since it will eliminate a lot of problems from tourists and whatnot. Anyway, the next meeting will be taking place in a week, and we will know definitively what will happen then.

Currently a map is in the works designating launch and shared-sports areas. The CPD has already moved the swimmers over to give us more room in the future. A set of proposed general rules for all kiters is being formulated. The basis of which is from the top ten here:

A sign-in is being proposed and PASA has been contacted to provide a blanket insurance plan for the entire Chicagoland lakefront. The CPD may also wind up being named in this plan should it be approved to further eliminate concerns. So basically, the issue revolves around money.

Wish us luck...
