Here is the lastest update on the King of the Great Lakes.
We are now part of the US Pro Tour, but still have lots of room for all the newer riders the amateur division. The Pro Divsion is designed for Pros, Top Local riders and Outlaws. ( I am still not sure what they are, but hey, you learn something new everyday).
Sorry if the type is a little wacky, I just did a cut and paste.

WelcomeMackinaw Kite Company welcomes you to the premier kiting location in the Midwest. Lake Michigan offers some of the most diverse kite surfing in the area. Flat water, head high waves, mellow down wind runs, and full on gale conditions are all part of the fall season. Fall conditionsFall is the season local kiters, surfers, and sailors live for. The water is warm after the summer heat. Bring your full suit and shorty for the changing air temps. The weather pattern starts firing cold fronts through the area on a weekly basis. Grand Haven is situated on the east side of Lake Michigan and catches the west winds better than the west side of the lake. Locals use 12, 16, and 20 meter (inflatable) kites on a regular basis. Area riding spotsGrand Haven: Mecca for the kiting community. Home of Mackinaw Kite Company. Long wide beaches, sandy launches, and plenty of friendly locals to help you catch a kite or hook up for a down wind session. The main launch area is called City beach directly south of the main state park. You can upwind next to the pier from this spot to catch the swell. Any direction but east works here. North and northwest is the desired direction due to the pier location and swell. The beach is pretty crowded in the summer months but thins out in the fall. Muskegon: If Grand Haven gets too crowded with beachgoers – head to Muskegon. The swell is not as big – but the wind is usually stronger here. Go to Pier Marquette park and look for the beach. It will be the long stretch of sand near the huge body of water. North, northwest, and west work on the south side of the pier. The beach is large enough to kite on the south side of the pier on a south wind. Little Sable Point: Pull out a map of Michigan. Look for one of the furthest land masses that stick out on Lake Michigan. If the wind prediction is south – head to Little Sable. The hour drive is worth it. The point catches the thermal fetch and is incredibly windy on a sunny south wind day. The launch area is long and sandy. Grand Haven Night LifeGrand Haven is a sailing town. It originally started as a resort town for vacationing Chicagoians. There is a ton of great restaraunts are bars along the boardwalk and downtown within walking distance from the beach. The Kirby Grill is home to our Friday night party. They have 3 restaurants in one, with Pizza upstairs, and Casual and Fine Dining on the main floor. They also have a great deck facing out over the river for great evening entertainment. Tip a Few, Snug Harbor, and Beach Burritos are a few of our other favorite local meeting spots. For breakfast check out the Dee Lite and just down the road on Washington is the Morning Star Cafe.

This year the event will be part of US Pro Kite Tour with $2,000 in cash prizes, plus equipment prizes for the amateur division.
