Me, the wife, two puppies, Lake Michigan beachfront June 29th thru July 3rd (Sunday-Thursday), somewhere between Muskegon and Traverse City.

Trying to design a quick beach getaway for the family....maybe a rental, maybe camping. Thought about Manistee National Forest camping which I have done before but I want to mix it up a bit. Looked at heeps of cottages on rental sites but tough to pick a spot site unseen. Ideally a spot with a view that is a stone's throw from a good launch. Anybody have any concrete suggestions?

Give Dave Clark a call at H20 Kiteboarding, he is our Traverse City/Northern Michigan corespondent. You can find his number in the schools tab on the homepage of www.KiteMI.com

Let us know what you find!

I don't have any one place that I can recommend over any other. The Silver Lake Sand Dunes area (Little Sable Point) is a great spot, but its also a very popular spot and might be booked up. There is good all along the coast from Muskegon to North Port. And some of the camp grounds have been recently flooded in Manistee and Ludington.

My Concrete Pick for a place to stay with kiting within walking Distance would be the Platte River Camp Ground. It has access right on Platte Bay and is close to other great kite spots. http://www.nps.gov/slbe/planyourvisit/platterivercamp.htm Check it out. The end of the point is currently closed for the Plover mating season but there is lots of shoreline that is still open.

Another spot if you want more amenities would the Homestead Resort near Glen Arbor. and lastly there is the Habor Lights Motel (Condos) on the lake in Frankfort. http://www.harborlightsmotel.com/ This is another really slick spot to kite with two great beaches on the sides of the Harbor piers.

Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions or need forecasting advice.

Thanks DC! We're in a little cottage near pere Marquette from 6/30 to 7/2. If we get some wind I'll be somewhere between Pere Marquette and Little Sable with a 16 rebel or 12 LF M-80. Then we'll be in TC on 7/3 and 7/4. Maybe I'll call you about TC riding...ie bay vs big lake, launches, etc. Thanks for your tips, I am surely not to be the only one to find them useful.
