Tom has inspired me to do a drysuit snowboard session at Metro Beach today anytime after 12 noon. Nice South wind forecast and the ice yesterday was solid, so no worries!

I would be great to have some company, but if you don't want to ride come take some footage.

So who is on-board?

OK, I uploaded the pictures of Tom and I from Metro today. HOLY SH** was that the most bizarre session to date. Bizarre in that I had a water and snow kiting session in the same day.

http://www.kiteus.com/forums/index.php?aut...q=sc&cat=12

When I arrived Tom had that look, you know that look. huh.gif huh.gif huh.gif
He instructed me to get in my dry suit, put up my snowboard boots without socks and put up my 12M. I think Tom called it a "Hybrid Session" and that sums it up. When riding deep in the bowl it was a water session with 6-10 inches of water on top of the ice. When you passed in front of the launch it was a snow kiting session. My new Banana Skate doubled as a water board quite well. A couple times I lost my footing and slid for what felt like a mile. I quickly figured out you need to keep the kite high and just stand up.

I got my water session fix in! Very Very Cool!

Those Ice Fisherman are NUTS! They stood in puddles of knee high water watching the ice melt 100s of yards off shore.

John

That's crazy. Was the board on the ice below while you were in the water areas?

Yes and no, if you used less edge and flattened the board it would plane on the water. when you wanted to tack up wind the edge would make contact. There where a couple of pools of water that where real deep and as long as you had your speed up you could tack up wind while planning. It was also wild ridding in water getting soaking wet and looking over your shoulder and seeing the ice fisherman sitting on their buckets.

John hit the nail on the head with calling it bizarre, it was a wild session that just had a different feeling to it. It was fun like playing in puddles on the way to the bus stop when you where a kid.

Does my new Liquid Force Boardshort Harness make my butt look big? I bought the black one because the manufacturers rep said they are slimming.

Tom gets all the credit for this making this one happen. He went out solo and came in to call me. If he was not out I would have just stayed at work. When I arrived he gave full instructions including kite size and the sockless thing (good call). I launched on land and Tom escorted my out on the ice. Without the assistance I would have just slid back to shore. After that he walked all the way over to the bowl with the camera to take pictures. Tom for Mayor of Detroit! laugh.gif

I wish the picture Tom took of my wipe-out came out, it is blurry. It was like a never ending slip and slide run.
