1/4/08
Whitmore Lake
12 inches of dry powder @ 25 degrees
S Winds 5-10, Gusts 13 mph
Kite: 11m Frenzy FX
Board: Lib Tech Travis Rice Magnetraction
Ride Time: 1.5 hours
Goals Met: First time snowkiting!!!!
Session Rating: 5/5

Comments:
This was my first time kiting since tearing my MCL on October 30th. It was awesome to be riding again, granted snowkiting feels very different to me than water kiting. The conditions were really good for my first ever snow session - I had to work the kite a little, but that was okay. I got a little air off a jump that Amer built (the highlight of the session), but then quickly dialed it down so as not to push my knee too hard, which by the way wasn't bothered at all. Amer's Ozone Frenzy is absolutely amazing. It's super easy to self-launch, land, and control. The hand break, which causes the kite to gently fall from the sky and land in a perfect "relaunch position", is unbelievable. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been able to self-launch my 14m Havoc in winds this light, plus I would have had to pump, run the lines, and deflate... I'm definitely going to consider buying one of these for the winter... This session gets a 5 because it was my first time riding since my injury and it was my first time ever snowkiting!

1/23/08
Whitmore Lake
2 inches of powder @ 32 degrees
W Winds 10-20, Gusts 31 mph (verified at weatherunderground.com)
Kite: 10m Havoc
Board: Lib Tech Travis Rice Magnetraction
Ride Time: 3.5 hours
Goals Met: not this time
Session Rating: 5/5

Comments:
Second time snowkiting.. had a blast! conditions were pretty slick because the lake had just frozen Saturday night and we had only gotten about 2 inches of snow.. a lot of the snow had piled into 3 to 4 inch "snow pillows" leaving about 25% of the lake exposed as ice. the magnetraction board works well. my pads work well too - used elbow, knee, and protec hip pads, which really saved my tail bone a few times - would never ride on ice without these... Rode with Amer, Tom, and Alex.. sweet session!

hey guys,
just wanted to let you know that you can get the wind conditions for previous days, which can be useful for logging your sessions - it might not be exact for your riding spot, but it will probably help to get numbers that are in the ballpark - especially in the winter when thermals aren't as big of an issue..

just go to weatherunderground.com, type in the zip code or city, scroll down and look on the left for "History & Almanac", select the date under "Detailed History and Climate (KARB)" and click go.
