Until Presque Isle freezes over I have only a small park (Edgewater) to kite on, but there is some interesting looking farmland East of Cleveland in the Lake Erie snow belt. What do the rest of you do when you find a good looking place to snowkite? Do you just set up and start flying, or do you try to find the person that owns the land an ask permission? What is the ettiquette here?

Your best bet is to find out who the owner of the land is and ask his/her permission. It helps to bring a kiteboarding magazine with you to help explain the sport. Most of the time the owner of the land is a older person , who might not be aware of kiteboarding. You will be surprised how nice people can be when you take the time to ask permission. We recently found a great field near Grand Bend. We asked the owner and he was super cool. All his neighbors came over to watch, his wife even called the local paper to come take some pictures. So, bottom line be kind and it will all work out. Good luck in finding a spot and happy riding.

Bring em some of the good stuff and you'll be granted permission, they can't say NO!
