The next couple days NOAA is saying light NE winds. This is the time of year when the sun comes out it pulls the Northeasts in stronger. Saul made it out at mentor last week, so the water must be bearable!

Ted- don't forget about the powerplant in avon lake. You get a bonus 5-10 degrees on the water temp there. That is if you want to risk your life in the toxic sludge. I surfed there on monday and the temp wasn't too bad. I'm game for heading to the western basin this weekend if the wind comes through.

What's up fellas, I hate to hit you with this, I thought I would help launch this Forum with a bit of kite envy. I am off to South Beach Thursday and I will be rippin the south shores of Key Biscane. Waist deep, butter smooth, sky blue water. Oh, and I forgot to mention I booked a jump lesson with Miami's finest instructor. You can find her profile in the address below.

I've noticed that sometimes while the water is still cold, NE winds aren't very good at Edgewater. There seems to be some kind of bubble effect against the hill there. The wind seems to be blowing hard out on the lake, but on the beach, it very fickle, light and gusty. The same wind is fine in Euclid at the same time.

I was at Sims Park in Euclid today on my new 12M Slingshot Turbo Diesel, very powered up.

Nice Saul! Headed down to the edge after work today. It was super gusty when I went out on the rocks so I played the waiting game for an hour to see what was going to happen. Sure enough I got cold standing out there so once I finally scrapped it I went up to whiskey island to see if anything was different there. Looked windier but felt lighter so I went and drank beer instead.

Tomorrow the wind forecast is a bit better than it was supposed to be today plus its gonna be sunny in the afternoon so I have full hopes in it happening stronger than it came in today. Saul, let me know if you are going to hit sims again, I'm thinking either there or the power plant, still lot of crap on the beach at edgewater. Thankfully its not ten yards wide of dead fish like we had last year.

Doug, I rode miami in february. I think the kite house goes out at stiltsville which looks sick from where I saw it. When I was down there I rode the "Miami Flats" which is also in biscayne bay but accessible from the land. The link didn't work but if you are getting instructed by who I think you are you're in for a treat. See if you can get any scantly clad photos showing off her teaching ability ohmy.gif

Joel, you mentioned a power plant on Avon Lake I think it was called...where's that at?

Im sure you'd probably either get shot or arrested REAL quick these days, but has anyone ever tried the waters near Davis Bessy power plant west of Sandusky? The water coming out of that place has got to be a bit warmer than the rest of the lake right now....just a random thought...

If nothing else you might be able to glow in the dark after riding in it! biggrin.gif

Like I said, when the water is still cold in the spring, all that cold heavy wind has trouble climbing up the hill at Edgewater, so it stalls a bit, causing a bubble effect. I suspect it might do the same thing at the power plant, but I'm not sure. I've never been there. Sims is practically just down the street from where I live, though.

Yes, I am going to Sims again after work today. Should be there just before 5:00.

Saul made the right call tonight. I headed over to Sims after work even though the 5 pm burke reading tanked. Pulled in there and it didn't even look promising looking at the trees and the flags along the way. Pulled up and Saul was out riding one of those taco shaped kites laugh.gif What size was that? Snapped some photos then rigged the 17. Wasn't able to stay up wind right away partly cause i didn't adjust my footstraps to fit my boots and the wind was on the light side. Came in and decided to shed the boots gloves and hood. The sun kept me pretty warm but after a bit it was too much so I called it a day. The wind picked up a bit on my last few runs. Probably my first actual light wind day in ohio.

Sims is a pretty sweet spot. That was the first time I rode there and the wind was as steady as I've ever gotten in Ohio. Here are some pictures I snapped when I was de rigging. More to come tomorrow???

That "taco shaped kite" was a 12M.

Forcast for today looks iffy, but with NE winds, it could pick up.

If you want REALLY smooth winds, try Mentor Headlands in the spring on a West wind day, when its warm and sunny. We might get some of that this weekend.

Thanks for the pics.

Feet could have been better but after this warm weather spell that is about to hit I don't think I'll need them anymore!!

Let us know if anything funny is going on out there in mentor.
