Im shipping out 7-20 for my good friends Craig and Kaycee's wedding in Georgetown, Colorado. Along with a mountain bike and maybee a frisbee I am taking my kite quiver. There are several reservoirs up in them Rockies that are kitable and I hope there is wind so I can check'm out. Lake McConahey in Nebraska is also a Plains kiting Hotbed. Has anyone been lit at that elevation? Ill be boosting like 10,000 ft. above sea level!

Okay, first I hit Green Mountain Reservoir about 20 miles north of Dillon on the way to Steamboat. Beautiful spot, 11 miles long, 2-3 wide, in the heart of the Gore Range. No wind but there are 30 ft. to 70 foot cliffs to jump off into 100 ft deep water. I guess its gusty up there but you can downwind in most directions - lots of safe places to land.

Next, Aurora reservoir on the Eastern plains of Denver. Smallish, (a bit bigger than Orchard Lk.), good launching area, no wind. This is were the Denver locals ride.

Finally, the jackpot, in Nebraska? thats right, Lk. McConahy 10 miles north of Hwy 80 near the CO border. What used to be 20 miles long and 4 miles wide has shrunk to half to 2/3 due to water shortages in recent years. Huge open fine sand beach along the entire north rim, like lk. Mich but harder packed so you can drive on it. Rode for two hours in South wind blowing 18 to 22 lit up on 14m. No other kiters around, room to roam and display some Detroit Shiz. Those Cornhuskers were all fired up. This spot would be top notch on a good W.

There are multiple other locations that I did not hit - lots of kiting opportunities out there. If you are driving through the Rockies or Plains, take the Kites!
