I am interested in getting some feedback on what size kite and board would be ideal for riding on Lake Erie.

I'm 6'3'' 250lbs. My preference is a north vegas but i'm not sure if a 14m or 16m is more appropriate, especially for the variable wind conditions.

Also what size board is ideal for the lake erie chop etc?

New to this so any feedback much appreciated.

Tim- For your size a 14 would be a good size for your first kite. However, if you are just getting into the sport your first priority should be lessons. Currently the closest lesson center is on Lake St. Clair near Detroit, there is a list of schools on the kiteMI.com website. Some of the local guys have gotten trained up there and can give you feedback about the schools. You can beat up and test their gear while learning then decide which kite would best fit you.

Joe G and myself took a lesson from Kyle at Detroit Kiteboarding on Lake St. Clair. It was a great day and I would hightly recommend the trip. Last year I picked up several C style kites. (9m, 12m, & 16m....all Naish). I found that I used the 16m the most but it worked best on days that weren't too windy. I guess if had to pick one kite then the 12m is probably a good kite for all around.
