A couple of times I have jumped (pitching the kite) and tried to get an elevated view of the water around me, of course I don't get all the way out of the water but twice I've spotted my board this way which helped me get to

my board more quickly and efficiently.

May not always work but worth trying. It looks alot like my avatar picture! haha!

I just thought Id give a shout out to Drew, (local kiter) who many of you know and have tasted his craft brews at various events

and his local eateries. He has recently opened a new BBQ place called Lockhart"s in Royal Oak and I had the chance

to stop in and give it a try. I got the Lockharts special platter, it has a little bit of everything, which was out of site!

My son got the ribs and started out complaining that they were "dry and there isnt any sauce!" but within about 10 minutes

the ribs were cleaned off the bones! Great Job Drew! I am grateful that there is finally a competent BBQ place that I no longer have

to schedule a trip just to taste some real BBQ!

I highly recommend stopping in and trying it out! for the sides try the collard greens! Ive never had em like that! DELICIOUS!

Wow! I cant believe how we lucked out at Atlantis after making the call to leave Tawas all together!

She delivered the goods and then some. Rick has done some kick-ass fabricating on the Sea Monster

and it will be the Jewel of the Michigan Kiting community! Thanks Rick, for the intro to arguably the best

riding spot on the planet! I love the Great Lakes. Oh, and thank you John for having the Sea Monster

in the first place!

BTW, I flew my new Core kites for their virgin session at Atlantis and I dont know if it was the conditions or

kites or combination of both... but all I can say is I am very impressed!

Thinking of heading to the blue lagoon this morning to fly my

new Core kites, if anyone is interested in trying em' feel free.

The wind forecasts have been very unreliable so I hope the winds

hold up! Hope to get there around 9:30

I dont know if things have changed but you need to be a G.P resident to gain entry. My wife is from there and we frequent the park with her moms park pass and they are pretty strict.

I have seen windsurfers there but I never considered kiting there because the entry into the water is complicated and you would need to wade out pretty far for a water launch. guess

I'm lazy!

I was organizing my kite gear and noticed my harness missing, I haven't kited in several weeks and imagine that I left it at metro. If any one has picked one up please let me know 313 995-7346

It is a blue Dakine Tabu with a sailing rope attatched to the back (suicide leash style).

Thanks, Marcus

I believe those would be mine, Slingshot glide and a L.F recoil. I knew something wasn't right when I left metro on Sat! I would appreciate you calling me so I can describe them to you and collect them from you. (313) 995 - 7346

Thanks, Marcus

Perhaps we could pitch-in and build a ramp of some sort that gently slopes out to sandy bottom and carpet it for traction? then just pull it in for winter.

Was in the Grand Rapids area this weekend and ended up scoring a killer Lake mi session at Pere Marquette beach this morning about 9:30 to about 1 pm. About 30 kites out on the water, and yes the water was warm! I couldn't believe it! must have been 70-75 degrees. Lots of surfers too swell was good all morning.

Wow ... talk about a bunch of grumpy kiters!!

Look all you east side guys bragging about the greatness of Tawas and Metro are full of crap! Come clean we all know they suck!! The tales of wind at Tawas and that Metro Magic thing are nothing more than folklore!

you are so right Tom, I am grumpy as hell! I guess I dont spend enough time on here reading every post!lol

I wish I had enough free time to spend with the Tawas crew! and for lack of wind since the killer spring we had, I am getting even grumpier! I need a serious fix soon to lighten my mind! angry.gif

Hey guys,

you all might remember the Red Bull 2005 King of the Air slider built by Matt Myers and Broneah. It sat for a few years. last year Turtle brought it down state and Shubes tightened it up and repainted it. it then got moved again. then dropped in the water. then pulled out and moved to the BL. All the moving and contorting tweaked it good knocking off the 'up' section and fracturing the panel skirts on each side.

The last couple of weeks the Kobra and I have been battling the fish flies to dial it back in. Thanks to Taylor and Jordan too. Its all good to go now and just needs to be splashed. The thing is a behemoth though, I think ten could manage but a dozen will make it gravy. Whose got the time and muscle? Wednesday evening? Thursday? Saturday?

Cant wait to hit dis ting...

Call me Kyle, I can help but my schedule is scattered!

This is why you guys should not doubt the strange and mysterious powers of Tawas. The crackhead weathermen and non-believers all said that the wind was going to be 5-10 NW diminishing to nothing. I can tell you right now those fudge packing weathermen were very wrong. I seen the miracle before my own eyes...Saturday (6/20) many of us Tawas kiters were distraut with no wind, until it happened...

Those of you who werent there might say, "well Josh, what happened?"

It f***ing nuked 15-20 w/gusts to 25 from 1pm till about 8pm Saturday, thats what f***ing happened!

So, if you guys have problems with a lack of wind...I have the solution. And that solution is Tawas. It has raged there atleast one day every weekend and its been a kick ass year there so far. Come on up there is plenty of room in the woods to make a camp site and plenty of townies to laugh at.

Wow, Good for you that you finally figured out what so many of us knew all along! Tawas is awesome! Sucks that you gotta drive so far tho! and don't think you discovered it all on your own! As for Metro you can leave it for all us East Siders to deal with ! dont you worry your west sided mind! Go Tawas!! yay!!!!

QUOTE(blp @ Apr 22 2009, 10:10 AM) *
Let me start out by saying I'm still a newbie (<1yr.) . I've read a number of forum postings on the subject of lofting, seen kitemares on vids.; an 800' incident in Cabarete comes to mind.
Anyways, everything I have read/seen says to launch, then keep the kite low and go.

It seems that at many sites, especially Metro that the riders I have seen, launch, then park at neutral while they walk across the lawn. Isn't this setting up to get lofted across the lot? I know the tree shield at Metro may make it tough to keep the kite low.

Just looking for some input , as everyone I see seems to break the above rule.
Peace.

blp, Metro is not a beginner friendly launch! Those of us who are regulars highly recommend drift/ water launching, or assisted water launching.
Ask anyone of us to help and you will receive it. Many kitemares have occurred there and we would love to keep them minimal if not at all!
Those of us you see launching on the grass have experience( well most of us) and are aware of the dangers. One thing to keep in mind is if you
don't have control over your rig, LET GO! This is the most simple and effective way to kill the power of your kite if it is properly set up. Most
incidents occur when the pilot thinks they can regain control and continue to try and do so. Hope this helps and remember ask for help if not sure!

Tom we wont call you anymore if you agree to show us your twat at metro since your there all the time anyway! tongue.gif
