QUOTE(Cruz @ Sep 24 2012, 03:23 PM) *
Kite US discussion forum September 2012:

It's been a solid month since the last post on this forum
I used to check in daily to find lively kiting discussion
This is where it all started for me
If you're like me you miss those days
The link to my old favorite bouy (LSCM4) on KiteMI is of course useless too
The only thing permanent in life is change
I don't even have a FB account but this might be the last straw
RIP KiteMI/KiteUS, it was a good run

Everyone went over to the FB page Metro Beach Kiteboarding Club. You may want to get a FB account. Not a fan but the only way you will stay updated Cruz. The reality is that FB is taking over.....even forums.

Cheers,

I should be writing this in the Boxing Ring page but I really want everyone to know what's up.

I have had numerous phone calls from people in Tawas over the past 2 years saying they were given incorrect information regarding kiteboarding schools. I find it very upsetting that anyone would give false information especially to new eager kiters. Good ethics and the sharing of knowledge between kiters in this incredible sport has always been the source of the stoke. The type of people that dig kiting are generally good, honest, helpful, fun people. Well, in my opinion anyway.

This sport is in no way about greed or hiding resources. If someone claims to be the only local source in the industry, I promise that they are simply out to make a buck off of you. In no way does this person have your best interest in mind. I apologize to those that have been blatantly lied to by another shop. I promise you that the rest of us involved in this beloved sport are not as greedy or deceitful.

Anyone looking for Liquid Force gear has always been directed to the other shop. I find myself more and more wondering why I would want to refer kiters to someone that is dishonest and would never share his knowledge simply to claim the dollar prize. That's not what this sport is about.

Please be more considerate of this community. It's a good one and we don't need it clouded by lies.

Hello everyone,

I hope you are enjoying the unusually warm weather. Plenty of Kiteboarders, Surfers and Stand Up Paddleboarders have still been on the water all winter.

Any way I wanted to update you on what is going on with Great Lakes Kiteboarding. We are getting ready for our annual North Carolina Hatteras trip March 31st-April 7th. If you are looking to get into Kiteboarding, an avid kiter or beginner than this is the trip for you. Hatteras North Carolina is one of the best environments for any level kiteboarder. Our group stays right on the Ocean and Sound side. The houses are 6 to 8 bedroom’s and are directly across from each other. You can kite and learn right in front of your house. Check out more info on my website…… http://www.greatlakeskiteboarding.com/inde...s&Itemid=10

Great Lakes Kiteboarding is stoked to be carrying Naish Hawaii this season. Robby Naish has been on the forefront of kiteboaridng from the beginning of the sport. Robby is a true water man and a legend in my mind. GLK will be carrying the Park kite and their surf and twin tip boards. The Park kite is an amazing all around universal kite. Designed with fun in mind, the Park is the one kite that does it all – any rider, any style, any condition. Naish has an incredible line of twin tips to cater to any rider. The GLK website will have the boards and kites we will be carrying from Naish in the next few weeks.

Great Lakes Kiteboarding will again be carrying Slingshot, Wainman Hawaii and Best Kiteboarding for the 2012 season. Wainman Hawaii just added 2 new kites to their Rabbit gang…..the 7.5 Mr. Green and the 10.5 Punch. Perfect additions to their lineup of incredible kites. Myself and most of my team riders are on these kite for one reason….they rock! The Wainman Blunt and their Joke boards are some of the best twin tips I have ridden and their surf boards are off the hook.

Slingshot has a new all around kite called the Z kite. The Z kite features a revolutionary new “Spherical-C” profile that enables consistent pull with controlled power and unmatched versatility. GLK is very excited to bring this kite in to add to the Slingshot line up. GLK is also very stoked to be carrying the legendary Fuel. The C kite is making a comeback and GLK’s new Canadian Team Rider and Instructor Curtis Laurie will be killing it on the Fuel this year. I rode the 2012 Fuel last Fall and fell in love with the kite again. It’s been over 5 years since I have ridden the Fuel. Raw power, huge jumps and epic kiteloops is all I can say !! GLK will also be stocking the 2012 RPM. This is a Fuel with more depowering and easier re-launching. Team Rider and Instructor Aaron Kaun has been riding this killer kite for the last 3 years and is totally in love with it. I am very excited to be carrying Slingshots Surf boards again this season. The Slingshots Surfs are all made with the WVS Bamboo construction which makes for the most durable and lightest surfboards on the market. They are also adding 2 new light wind boards to their lineup……the Knee Swacker and a surf/skim board called the Reform which is a 4’7’’ fun board. And of course we will be stocking their lineup of Twin Tips made right here in the USA!!

GLK will continue to carry the Best Kahuna kite. These are one of the best user friendly kites on the market. Easy relaunch, super stable and a very direct bar pressure. GLK has been using these kites to teach the last 3 years and will continue again this season. Best has an incredible package deal with the Kahuna kite, Redline bar and Spark board starting at $1500.

Great Lakes Kiteboarding is moving its location in April!! We are going to be running out of our new sister shop Great Lakes Surf Shop. The surf shop will be stocking a full lineup of Stand Up Paddleboards from Slingshot, Naish Hawaii, JP Australia, Jimmy Lewis, Hoist SUP’s and Bic. Great Lakes Surf Shop will also be carrying clothing lines from Billabong, RVCA, Hurley, Roxy, Volcolm and Nixon. Also sandals from Rainbow, Sanuk and Reef. Longboards from Kahuna Creations, Land Yacht and Sector 9. Snowboards and Kite Snowboards from Lib Tech and Arbor. The surf shop will be working with local parks and Yoga studios to offer SUP Yoga, Fitness courses, Tours and SUP rentals. The Tawas shop will continue to offer SUP rentals and tours and of course continue with our 10th years of doing Kiteboarding Camps and Lessons in the best spot in Michigan for Kiteboarding.

Our new shop address is 23517 Nine Mack Dr. Suite B St. Clair Shores Mi. 48080. Just 1 mile down from our current location. Check out Great Lakes Surf Shop on Facebook and like….. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Great...283771568328743. I will contact everyone for our Grand Opening Mid April.

If you’re looking to get into Kiteboarding this season we will most likely start a bit earlier because of the weather. You can sign up for camps now as there are already a few weekends that are fully booked.

Let me know if you have any questions and I look forward to seeing you on the water.

GLK Annual Hatteras Trip March 31st-7th 2012

We will be booking spots for our annual Hatteras trip. This is a trip for anyone who kites and wants to spend 7 days in flat shallow water, ride head high waves and log many miles of downwinders. Or for anyone who is looking to get into kiting and wants to learn from the longest running school in the best spot for kiteboaring in the US. Hatteras is the place!

Last year we had 7 days of sunny 70 degree weather and 20-25 mph winds. Some of us would start our day surfing with SUP's till the wind picked up then we would do many downwinders in ocean waves or ride slicks on the sound. We would end our day in the hotub with a cold beer and then cook up a great meal with the group.

The GLK Hatteras trip gets better and better every year mainly because of the diverse group of people who all have one incredible addiction...Kiteboarding!!!

GLK will be offering the following lesson for that week

3 Day Camp. Price $649. Learn from the longest running school in Michigan. Over the last 8 years we have developed a lesson program that will make you a safe, self sufficient and confident kiteboarder. This camp is designed for the total beginner from trainer kite time, rigging and tuning an inflatable, all the safety releases, self launching, self rescuing and self launching. Then we get into the water for some body dragging with your instructor dragging behind you the whole time. From there we will go through the basics of getting up and riding, edging and proper stance. After you learn the basics you will be doing many downwinders with your instructor riding with you the whole way down. By the end of our 3 day camp you will be up and riding and feeling totally confident.

The best part of learning with GLK in Hatteras is that you will be staying with Kiteboarders for 7 days who all have the same passion for this incredible sport!!

2 Day Camp. Price $499. This camp is designed for the beginner kiteboarder who is having difficulties with riding, kite handling, board skills, self launching, self rescuing and self landing. We will cater to your needs with this Camp!! Don't forget in this class we will also be doing many downwinders in which the instructor can pinpoint what you need to work on and also show you first hand.

Private Day Lesson. Price $299 (beginner-intermediate). So you want to learn to transition? Kiteloop? Backroll? Ride waves? You tell us what you want to accomplish and we will get you there guaranteed

Hourly. Price $75hr. (beginner-intermediate-advance). If you're having trouble with any part of your riding or tricks let us break it down and get you there!!

GLK will supply all the gear needed for the Camps. If you have your own gear then we highly recommend bringing it with you!

Price for lodging will be$300- $350 per person. When everyone has signed up we will then arrange the driving arrangements for the trip. Most people end up carpooling with others to off set the price of gas. I am open to suggestions on renting a full size van or camper for the week. We always talk about that every year, so if anyone is interested let me know.

The weather and winds that time of month can vary to 80 degrees and 15mph to 50 degrees and 40mph. So with that in mind you will need to bring the following things:

1. Every kite and board you own. (7m-14m)
2. Full steamer wetsuit and shorty (5/3mm-2mm)
3. Booties and mitts.
4. Warm and cold weather clothes ( jackets, hats, gloves, shorts and t's )
5. Sunscreen
6. Towels
7. Sheets and pillow cases.
8. Food (optional). Each house can decide if they want to annie up and buy food together. There are plenty of grocery stores there.
9. A great attitude...remember this trip is all about fun and riding!!!

If you have any questions feel free to contact me via email or @ 586 822 6511

Looking forward to another epic trip to the Outer Banks!!

Cheers,

Cheers,

I had a customer come into my shop today stating that his buddy who lives a few houses off the water at Metro found a twin tip kiteboard. He apparently found in over the summer. I did not find anything on the lost and found page but if you lost a board this summer give me a call.

Hey Guys,

Fall is here and so are the winds and waves! I hope you have been able to get out and enjoy the conditions. The winds have been pretty good so far with warm air and water temps. Waves have been really good on both Michigan coasts. I have been SUP surfing and kite surfing Lexington as the winds have been north which brings in some great swell wrapping around the south side of the break wall and producing some nice clean lefts! I also just got a session in Whitehall on Sat. There were a combination of surfers, Stand Up Surfers and Kiteboarders! We are very fortunate to live is such a versatile place for water sports. We still will have another 3 weeks or more before the real cold weather hits so get out there and enjoy the water before the snow flies!

For your cold water needs GLK has an assortment of cold water wetsuits, booties, gloves and hoods to extend your season. We are carrying Neil Pryde 5/3 5000 and 3000 series semi dry suites and 4/3 Hyperflex Cyclone wetsuits. We also carry Hyperflex 3 and 5mm gloves, booties and hoodies. This will totally extend your season on the water.

So as we are getting to the end of the kiting and SUP season GLK has a ton of killer closeouts on Wainman Hawaii, Best Kiteboarding, Slingshot Sports, Jimmy Lewis and Kahuna Land Paddle Big Sticks and Longboards. Check them out here: http://www.greatlakeskiteboarding.com/inde...rt&Itemid=2

And SUP closeouts here: http://www.greatlakeskiteboarding.com/inde...rt&Itemid=2

New 2012 kite products are arriving daily!

Best Kiteboarding just came out with a new full on C kite called the GP. The GP is team rider designed, tuned and tested and delivers an unbeatable combination of pop, responsive steering and amazing unhooked feel. If you’re a progressive rider looking for a killer C kite look no further. Best is also putting together an incredible Kite and Board package with the new V4 Kahuna and Spark Board. The Kahuna is an all-around do everything kite that is the easiest re- launching kite I have ever ridden. GLK uses the Kahuna’s kite in our school as we have seen students’ progress faster and quicker than any other kite we have ever used. This Kahuna kite and board package will start at an incredible $1575! http://www.bestkiteboarding.com/

Slingshot is still killing it in the kite department and we were happy to stoke people out on the Rally kite this season. The Rally blends C kite DNA from both our legendary Fuel and RPM, and then mixes the third element of the Delta shaping to create the industry first Open Delta C kite. The Rally and the new Open Delta C kite platform will deliver all the desirable features of a Delta coupled with the performance of a C kite. This kite does it all and more! For a demo contact GLK. Slingshot also has a new kiteboard called the Mayhem that caters to the top PKRA riders and aggressive intermediates to offer insane grip, pop, speed and control in an outline that lends consistent flex and unreal loading capabilities. The Mayhem has a contoured outline from tip to tail and precise thickness which allows hard carving. Slingshot also redesigned the new 2012 Misfit which offers a new outline, deck profile and Twin Channels, for more edging capability, consistent load with flex control, excellent upwind drive, and insane pop. With a weight reduction of .5 lbs (110g), the Misfit is designed by Tony Logosz. Let’s not forget about Slingshots surf line! These boards are the real deal! Beautiful Bamboo construction offers the lightest and strongest board around! The best part is that most of all the Slingshot boards are built in the USA!! http://ride.slingshotsports.com/kites

Last but no least let’s not forget about the new 2nd generation Wainman Hawaii Rabbit kites. With 2 new added sizes and a completely redesigned bar. These kites have been killing it which is why they are GLK’s best sellers. Sick graphics and an incredible ride for every type of kiting! For a demo contact GLK or come on in and check them out first hand! http://www.wainmanhawaii.com/

With our water season coming to an end let’s not forget about our Snowkinting season! I still love snowkiting just as much as water kiting. No lift lines or high prices to ride a small hill. Snowkiting is more accessible as all you need is a snow frozen lake, farmers field, golf course, soccer or football field and your ripping your way across untouched powder! GLK has now been teaching on snow for the last 10 years and can teach anyone in half the time than water. It’s easy and fun and a great way to enjoy our long winter months. GLK will start teaching as soon as the conditions are conducive…normally Dec. through March. If you are interested check out our snowkiting page here: http://www.greatlakeskiteboarding.com/inde...=6&Itemid=4

Hey Guys,

I am excited to announce that I have just received the 2nd Generation Wainman Hawaii Rabbits! They made some subtle changes to these already sick kites. The new Rabbit bar has more safety adjustments and was totally redesigned for a more user friendly bar. The kites are going to have more lift and upwind performance then the 1st generation and the new graphics are incredible!! Wainman added two new sizes….the 7.5 Mr. Green and the 10.5 Punch. The Wainman 9m Smoke was voted best kite in Kiteworld Magazine. I have been hard pressed to find a kite that I liked more than the C kites I rode for 9 years until I rode the Wainman Hawaii Rabbits! If you want to be blown away come out and try a 2nd Generation Wainman Rabbit kite. Call or e mail me for a demo! Check out their site…… http://www.wainmanhawaii.com

I am currently discounting the 1st generation Wainman Hawaii kites I have in stock. These will be up on my closeout list in the next few days. I am also selling my personal 1st Generation 12m Boss and 9m Smoke. Only ridden 3x. Call for or e mail for a killer deal!
