i hate the facebook interface. I post the google michigan kite locations map there i compiled last year but everyone keeps asking for the link again and again there's no way to get a sticky on facebook oh well

i've had about 40 sesh this year so far, and I am ready for the ice to thaw getting pretty bruised on this ice

A decent south has been rare. Every other day it's a southeast or northeast, short storms, 100 degree weather and not a thermal in sight, days on end at tawas completely skunked. You know. Summer. So I have been putting up my 17 and riding every day in the most sketch conditions you can imagine, running out of my apartment out to ford lake so i can get in 15 minutes of riding and then an hour of swimming back to the launch.

Tomorrow it's going to blow WSW all day, should be the nicest day we've had in over three weeks, smooth strong steady.

Thermals are difficult to predict at metro because a hot day does not necessarily generate a thermal it's the difference between water & air temperature, so if the water is too warm it won't go off.

Sign up for sessionalert.com someone will usually post if they are going.

If there is a south fresh breeze (> 16 knots) there is a 99% chance someone will be there.

Don't know my futur location yet.
I ask some information well before to be advised in case of ...

Thank you

Ok, let us know then. I ride Lake st clair, south through south west at metro, north through northwest at blue lagoon, lake erie on an east, lake michigan on a west, or south, muskegon is fun, tawas is nice at lake huron, has one of the nicest beaches, and north of tawas is oscada, in canada you have kettle point, nice for waves on an overnight north wind, the canadians ride the north side of lake erie, and the west side of lake st clair, though I usually won't go to mitchels bay, I will go to harsen's island instead, which nukes on a west. If you have access to a boat, the st clair flats have a million splots like gull island. I've seen the canadians like to ride surfboards a lot on the north side of lake erie, at Metro we typically ride the twintip since there are no waves to speak of in lake st clair. And there are million places I don't even know about.

So you see, there are million things you can do, hard to narrow it down much before you figure out where you are going to go.

But one thing I know, watch the forecasts, our best wind is often followed by a thunderstorm and some tornadoes.

Hi there every body.

Iím from France and Iíll be amongst you in few months because I move to your country as an expat.
Could you give me a quick view of what does kitesurf sound like for you ?
What are different spots, weather conditions etc...

Thank you very much.

Where do you live? We have 6 lakes, Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior, St. Clair, and a bunch of spots for each lake and in winter, thousands of little inland lakes for snowkiting. Midwest kiting is more storm driven not so much those daily thermals. You get conditions from 10 knots up to 50 knots, some places you get some waves, others you have some flat water.

I had a customer come into my shop today stating that his buddy who lives a few houses off the water at Metro found a twin tip kiteboard. He apparently found in over the summer. I did not find anything on the lost and found page but if you lost a board this summer give me a call.

Cheers,

tonite was a good candidate for a moon ride, wind was building solid not gusty, moon just came out from behind the clouds around 10pm

Wednesday Thursday and Friday all look excellent for a moon ride, solid wind out of the north so we can ride at the lagoon late, moon is waxing gibbous which means it will be high in the sky right at sunset.

I dunno if I can make it there in time, looks like the wind is supposed to die quickly at 5pm.

Moon is waxing gibbous wed nite, wind predicted, could be an all night ride at the blue lagoon, if the sky isn't cloudy

'A' is where the going can get tough. The water gets deeper out there, have issues on NW and next stop Canada eh.

Ah I get it now. When you said "offshore" wind I thought you meant the wind was gusty and bad, what you meant by "offshore" was "Next Stop Canada"

I think if the wind starts to die and you are caught at point A on a northwest, the easiest thing to do is get off your board and start body dragging. You can body drag upwind in much less wind than you can ride upwind.

It's tempting to try the "long tack" go way offshore and way back to try to make it back to the lagoon, but if you fail you are in for a long swim.

Blue Lagoon went off yesterday with sun, breeze, and 20+ kites on the water, wish we got more of those all day blows.

one thing to keep in mind for newer kiters, unless the wind has some E in it as soon as you get beyond the point it is essentially offshore wind. special care should be taken when you are riding out there. have an issue in deep water and you might have problems. Choose your zone, wrap it up once you are beyond the safe area where its shallow and other kiters can help you if you get in trouble.

Uh, do you mean past the point and north or around the point and south of the blue lagoon?

That is letter A, or letter B? or letter C?

Anyone have any idea if Tawas is likely to be rideable this Saturday? I hven't kited in forever and this is probably the only weekend I can make it up there this summer.

forecast doesn't look good.

You might catch a thermal around 4pm, but you can say that about any day in Tawas
