John,

Justin (back from Germany for a week) and I are leaving for KP now. Edger and Brar are out. Rob is thinking about it. You should go it's been blowing yesterday and all night. NW is the best, but some north in it is fine. KP fires so few times in the summer, so it's a must if you want real waves. biggrin.gif
give me a call.

The stars were in line. You can't ask for a better front to roll in. It starts out with an East wind on Sterling Friday, SW on lake Mi Sunday with 4-8ft waves, and a HUGE NW at KP on Tuesday. When you get a buoy reading of NW 14ft wave with 10sec period, you have to get to KP as fast as you can! These days only come a few times a year and thank God I was there enjoying it with friends.

To give you the feeling, you're on a 9m(de-powered all the way), 5'5" surfboard and it's blowing 30-40 waves 10-15' and huge fucking lanes glassy and smooth laugh.gif . Now these waves are about 1/2mile off shore. You ride out though 8-10 waves breaking with big ass white water and when you get to the real goods your like WOW what the fuck! The swells R just rolling in as huge walls. You pick the 2nd or 3rd one in the set and ride it till shore. When you first drop in you are sceaming down the face. One cutback and holly shit, you kill the power in the kite and begin to shred it up. Staying in the pocket allows you to get 10-20+ bottom turns with several cut backs as your kite gently drifts above you. It's the greatest feeling! After that hell of a ride in, you jibe and do it again and again. Allllllllll day rolleyes.gif . Don't stop because who knows when another day like this is coming! Another great felling is sharing a 15 footer with a friend. Both of you cutn it up like a figure 8. Bottom turn after another. Smashing the lip with a huge wall of spary and looking over and seeing him just tearing it up! What a ride! Mark glad you made it out.

I've been telling you guys to get a surfboard and try this out for 3 years. We have some of the greatest waves on our lakes and fall is always amazing. It does take time, but it is so worth it!!!!

Let's hope mother nature keeps bring the goods!

Great first wave day and it's only March 24th! 3-6ft, 9m and Sunny all day. Nothing like a surf board and a 9m in the waves. Perfect combo. Nice to see the Ann Arbor crew tearing it up.
What a blast biggrin.gif

Leaving my house at 4 am to get some work in and then heading back to Sterling for more waves today. It's been blowing HARD all night.... The waves will be MUCH bigger biggrin.gif
Anyone in?

What a day!!! Tom & I left our houses at 6am heading for Montague(above Muskegon). Couldn't ask for better; 70degs, blue skys, blowing all night, 30+mph side shore, 6'-10' waves peeling left with steep walls. It was heaven! Both of us on 9m with 20m lines, 5'5" & 5'8" surf boards. All day wave action, line after line. That place goes OFF on a south and the two piers clean up the waves, set after set.

Got home at 6:30pm the wind still blowing hard 15-20, so I rigged my 13m/129 and rode till 9pm on my lake. WOW..... Please, let me wake up and do it again tomorrow.

It just doesn't get better than this...... rolleyes.gif

Saturday was one of the best day of snowkiting. Tom & I drove up for the day, 4hrs, rode for 7hrs, then had dinner and beers with some good guys and drove back 4hrs. Great day 6am - 12:30 am.

Thanks Dave for putting it altogether.
Deep powder, wind and huge jumps. Lots of fun.

By the way, I'll be in Petoskey this weekend thru Monday, looking to ride somewhere.
Hope for wind and snow.

Tom E. and I are going out today on my lake (Whitmore) all day. Anyone interested just come out Whitmore Lake. It's been the best snow kiting Dec/Jan. Even got a water session in on Jan 11th, my lake opened up. Lit on a 13m/129 for 4 hrs. Used lots of duck tape on my boots to drysuit joint. It was a blast. Stayed warm because it was 38degs. Been snow kiting in fields lately, now back to the lake.

Come on out.....

Classic KP NW day. Lit on my 9m & rocket fish surfboard all day. 6 hrs of 6-8ft very clean down the line waves. By myself till Tim from Sarnia came to ride for an hour. That place always delivers during the season.

Yesterday was at the shack was a blast, today Epic!

Here's how it went. To end a great day of riding (yesterday) of flat water, sun, big jumps with lots of riders to ripping my kite on landing......... Then to get home and be told that tomorrow's KP plans will have to be cancelled do to family stuff. I couldn't sleep all night. Tossing & turning finally got up at 5am pissed off looking at the bouy readings on lake MI & Huron????!!!??? I can't go a week without a wave day during the season!!! Had to make a change of plans. Called the two Toms (Sunday, Egan), none of us really work. Droped my kids off at school (once a week my wife works) and called Bill at Quantum Sail. Asked him if he could do a repair while I wait. Said yes, and I was on my way. What an amazing guy! Second time in 2 months I needed his services. If you ever need repair he's the GUY. Left Ann Arbor at 9:40am got to his shop, he hooked me up, then drove to the Schube Shack getting there at 11:30am. Both Toms were there rigging and off we went. Blowing solid 20, we all rigged 13 & 12m.

Today was EPIC. 20mph with gusts to 25 on 13m and very lifty. We were all getting HUGE jumps and lonnnng hang time. rolleyes.gif My biggest jumps ever. The second lifts were un-real. You'd be up 30ft and on the way down go back up for more. Just hanging and hanging. One after the other...... Missed out on a huge KP NW surf day, but was doing it right at the shack. Eric what a great spot. Thanks.

Going to KP tomorrow with Red Belly Alex, 8:30 eta. Any one else in??? Last week had some of the cleans waves when the wind turned west. It's been the best year for the surf. If you guys haven't tired a surf board in the waves, you're really missing it. I've been windsurfing/wave since 1983, and kiting with a surf board is the best of three sports. Between Huron & Lake MI, Fall/Spring it's all waves. You've got to try it.

Let me know if your in for KP.

Waves? Sideshore! Are they any good here. I've been there back in the 90's windsurfing, but it was flat. Looking to go there instead of metro. What do you look up to see wind/wave report?

Jim, wolfie said it all.

I kite in my backyard when I can. My lake gets really windy. You must have a hybrid or bow kite. The wind goes up/down too much. Yes I do a drift launch. It is not for a beginner or an early intermediate.

Yesterday I was on my 13m/129 666. It blew from 5-25mph. I had over 3+ hrs of killer rides and big jumps. I could have stayed out longer, but dinner was ready and I thought I would have an amazing time in KP the next day?????

Well, the wind sucked!!!!!!! angry.gif We got there between 9-9:30am. The wind was about 12-15mph not GALE 35-40????. Waves 5-10ft very clean and wide lanes. It was so sad..... 13m hybrid and 5'5" surfboard and could only go down wind eyeing some tasty waves. Couldn't do a thing. No one missed it. Be happy you stayed at work.

Waiting for the next wave day.....

What a day. Could only last 55mins.

I got to KP at 11:30am, parked at the NW spot, could barely open my drivers side door. The wind, snow and frozen sand was flying everywhere. My wind meter read 35mph gust to 39. My car read 18 deg F and I was looking at a 5ft high ice drift along the shore line about 15-20 in-depth. Oh shit! Stay or go? The waves on the outside looked huge. So I rigged 2.8m/8ft JP. Put on the drysuit, 3mm gloves, 5mm boots and hood. Slid over the ice drift and went sailing.

The waves were 1/2 to 3/4 mast high. Classic KP NW day. But very windy. Using 2.8m is always a strange feeling. My board had way too much volume (79lt). I needed 7'6" 65lt board. It was tuff sailing. My board, boom and sail were coated with ice. Felt like an extra 50lbs. Road some great waves tongue.gif , but could only last less than a hour. Wearing so much to keep warm and ridding unhooked in the waves really works you. What a difference a week makes. Last Thursday I lasted 5hrs kiting and windsurfing.

When I finally came back to shore, I could barely get over the ice drift. I put my board and rig over and worked at climbing over the 5ft wall of ice. Standing in 2ft of icy shoreline water and trying to climb with rubber feet and hands is harder than you would think. Finally inched my self up and ran to my car for heat. After about 30mins, I began to de-rig. You can't believe how long it took to de-rig with frozen sand flying in your eyes. Everything was frozen together. I had to pour water on my ropes to try to un-tie my knots. After a bottle of water and a screw driver I got the boom off packed up and drove off.

I could never have kited in this cold temp. I lasted as long as I could. I would much rather have 39deg and 5.0m sail or 8m kite with waves.

Well, I tried. New personal rule - no wave sailing or kiting under 32deg.

Next week is looking warm let me know if anyone is going out. I'll be there.

By the way, Thanks to that kiter from Grand Bend who landed my kite at KP last week.

Ended up kiting alone yesterday. Amadeo is out sick. Just when he bought 2 new 07 kites. Went to Metro. Rigged and kited of the sandy beach. Walked out though 20ft of snow/thick ice along the shoreline. First out on a 12m/132 then finished on 17m/132. Good day.

Mark if its blowing you've got to go. Come today!

Anyone going to KP?

Tim, 8-12ft waves NW all night long, got to try it out. I'll be wave sailing these perfect conditions hopefully on a 4.0m/8ft JP. KP has given me 7 great wave sailing days this fall. Plus I can't go tomorrow.

Tkettlepoint, are you going out?

call if going 734 649-7265
