I ride a 100cm Jimmy Lewis Myth Board that is Finless. Usually only ride it in really windy conditions - because I need to be powered up to stay afloat. After riding for 15minutes though, I regain the feeling of the board and don't notice there are no fins on it.
It's a fun high wind board that I can hold down lots of power with.

Just wanted to stay in the loop with the Detroit (Windsor) scene. I've moved down to Miami a few months ago, and I have started Medical School at the University of Miami Miller School Of Medicine. But I was finally able to get on the water Monday afternoon after school was cancelled to the threat of Hurricane Rita.
Spent two hours kiting on South Beach with a few other locals; way over powered on a 12m Torch - most other guys were on 8s. However, I was talking to a local before going out and after I told him I was from Michigan he questioned if I was used to riding in narly ocean stuff like this. I started laughing in his face - since he thought riding on "those Michigan lakes" was obviously for panzys. He has never heard about our scene in Michigan.
Anyway - I hope everyone is enjoying the fall season, and I didn't want to drift apart from you guys.

Planning to head out to Harsens Island this afternoon.
Winds are already 18 - 20 knots @ 10 am out of the west.

Hopefully the bay won't be crowded with people heading out early for the holiday weekend.

Looking like a good metro day if the rain holds off. Hope to get out there early this time so I don't miss it!

We finally got snow, but lost all the wind. I'm afraid we're going to lose the snow too before the wind returns with the warmer temperatures this week. Start praying and we might be able to ride this winter.

I got stuck in Chicago for another night - but am taking the early flight back tomorrow morning. Looking forward to riding tomorrow. Looks like good wind for the day - starting off light out of the North and then getting stronger as the wind shifts around to the SW in the afternoon. Cass is great on all of these days.

Probably heading out from Dodge State Park off of Cass Lake Rd in the afternoon. I believe the normal launch spot by the beaches is closed in the winter - so we'll go out at the far end of the boat ramps - by the new dock they built.

There's ice fishermans out so it should be safe.

Call me if you plan on going out.

I have several extra sets of lines and old bars for sale. Lines are very new - only used a few times - and will sell with or without the bar.

Today was the first day of the Pipemasters Competition on the North Shore of Oahu. There is live video of the competition when it is on linked on the website.

(Hawaii is 5 hours behind)

This is the premier surfing contest of the year, and it defiently worth checking out. It's a great way to waste a little time at the office.

Fox Sports Net's show - Re-evolution of Sports has a hour long episode this week dedicated to Kiteboarding. First they show the King of the Air Competition from Maui from this past Fall, then they show the Naish Guys jumping off the USS Lexington. Great footage. It should be rerun throughout the week.
I have comcast and it was on channel 32, and on Direct TV it is on one of the 600 channels.

You wouldn't find me out there until it was 40 degrees warmer.

Obviously everyone is looking at step in binding for kiteoboarding, so I decided to start this thread, putting my two cents in, and would like to hear what others have to say.

I used to snowboard alot and have three types of steps in systems on my boards; Burton and Rossignol step-ins, and K2 clickers. Keep in mind they are a couple years old and have probably been improved over the last year.
I like the Burton step-in system best. They were least prone to geting clogged and are easiest to get out of. I found that the Rossignol and K2 bindings were easliy cloged and often iced up.
I also ride a 159- 162 free ride board. I'm 6' (185lbs) and this has worked well for me.

Let me know what you ride.

I was down in Miami Sunday and Monday at the University of Miami for a medical school interview and all I could do was stare out the window and watch the trees blowing around. It was so windy.
Anyhow, 2 months and no kiteboarding.
But hopefully I'll get into Miami Med School.

The forecast is starting to look better for Monday on Lake St. Clair (10-20), and it looks really good for Lake Michigan (15-25). Maybe we need memorial day road trip over to Grand Haven a week early?

When I was sitting on the picnic bench with Ben Meyer and Leshi Miller at Kite Beach in Maui last month, they kept begging Greg Drexler for a copy of this movie "13 Dayz." I couldn't figure it out - because "13 Days is a recent movie in the movie theather. Finally I asked them who was in it, and they responded Ben and I. Pretty cool moment, and they said it should be an awsome movie.
Great Opportunity. Can't Wait.

I've been hanging out with Robbie Nash and the the Nash team the past couple days. Kited last night on a 8 at kitebeach with just Robbbie, Leeshai Miller, and Ben Meyer with the camera man in the water.
It's been too windy during the day the past couple days, a few guys have been out on 5 meter kites busting huge airs. But I've been windsurfing at Hookipa, since there has been some waves -2-4 foot (about logo high on a windsurfer). Robbie went windsurfing today, and he is truely unreal at windsurfing.

Unfortunately, I'm comming back home Saturday - end of my Maui Summer.

See you guys soon on the water.

So I've been in Maui for 3 weeks now and have been on the water at least 4 solid hours every day getting blown around -- either kiting or windsurfing.
It's like a machine here - every day about 11 or 12 the wind kicks in and then it is only a matter of how windy will it get today?
Most days have been 8m kite days for me, but two days ago it was too windy for my 8 - so I went windsurfing on a 4.1 and 77 liter wave board.
The local pros here are pretty funny - their mentaility is if it isn't windy enough for a 8 or 10m kite by 12:30 - there's no point in kiting on a 12 - takes too much effort to blow up -- and they'd rather do yard work.
For instance there was one day last week where there was no wind (for the pros) but I had a solid 16m day.
As for the tricks here, amll of the pros here do everything unhooked - handle pass wakeboard style tricks - some doing double handle passes at 50 ft.
I just learned how to jump unhooked and it opened up a whole other world of tricks that I need to learn.

It's pretty nice here and you guys defiantly need to take a vacation here -
best part of each day is the fresh fish sandwhich you can get for $8 that'll blow your mind.

He's got my vote!

While past presidents have gone golfing on their vacations, Kerry might show up at the Red Bull King of the Air.

I am currently in Maui for the next month on a ktieboarding/windsurfing vacation. This is truely an epic place. I've been here only three days, and it has been three of the windiest days I've ever seen. Sunday I rode overpowered on my 8 while everyone else was on 6's and 5's. It is a sight to see pros riding a 6 - It's like a trainer kite for us.
Yesterday- it was even windier so I had to windsurf, but pulling up to Neilpryde/Cabrinha store I was greated by the Cabrinha team siiting in the back of Pete's pickup truck. It is pretty cool when you get to see and ride with all the guys you see in the magazines.

I'll keep you posted on island life.

Jeff

Wish I could figure out to Fedex you some of this wind.

Let me know a price and what condition it is in.

I go to school at U of M, and the closest spots to kite are on in Detroit. Either at Metro Beach (1.5 hr drive), or over to Canada to Belle River (1.5 hr) or Cedar Beach. If it is windy it is well worth the drive because the wind is always consistent on the larger lakes.
Check out Surf Culture Canada's website for wind directions and when to go where.
