From what I heard, his kite pretty much ripped in half right down the middle.

This is not a joke. This an x-ray of my now repaired foot which was damaged in a pretty bad kiting wipeout. I have the back roll kiteloop to face plant down like a mad bastard. I suffered from a Lisfranc injury and the only fixing it was surgery. I'm good to go for next season now! I'm literally screwed back together. I'll be off my foot for 8 weeks and then taking it easy for a while after that. Should be fun.

You guys f'n rock. It's great to see so many friends supporting me for freaking eating it big time! I love you guys.

Anyway, it turns out that I did a little more damage than I thought as you can see from Terrie's post. However, my ankle and knee are a-ok...just a bit sore from the crash. This is good 'cause you can really mess your ankle up doing what I did...but I didn't. My foot the issue. I broke one small bone...not a big deal, but when I bent my foot, I pulled the metatarsals away from their joints. Then, they snapped back in the wrong place. So, I have to have surgery to have them properly aligned. A few screws later, I'll be fine...for sure riding in the spring! It's a lisfranc injury. Apparently, 1 out of every 55,000 people experience said bullshit.

But I'm not gonna be a bitch about this. This is the season for Huron and the season for waves! If it's too west for Kettle Point, you guys are more than welcome at my place 15 min North in Grand Bend. Here are the gate codes:

October - 45610
November - 45611

Call my cell if you're coming up. I'll drink. You guys kite. 519.870.7650

The Grand Bend crew got a little bored yesterday. Check out this pic:
http://www.ruthshat.com/kite_boat.jpg

We figured out how to control the process a little better than we did at Kitestock. We shortened the rope quite a bit and went a little slower. It's really not that dangerous as long as Terry isn't driving you behind Zolly's ski that goes 70 MPH.

Still, in no way are we endorsing this type of behavior or reccomending that anyone other than expert idiot should try it.

Cheers,
Mike Sloan

The Grand Bend crew is here in Hatteras. It's been blowing the first two days and is supposed to keeping coming through all week. Man, so many chicks down here with fishing poles!

Wow, cool...didn't know that many people heard us on WJR! Hopefully, the kiting community will be able to catch ruth's hat live at Kitestock this year...right Timmy? If you guys have an extra minute, go vote for ruth's hat online for the London Music Awards...

<<We know. It's lame. Just do it. Voting for Ruth’s Hat at these two different web sites will take you a total of maybe a minute and a half. And while we think this award hoopla is a bunch of crap, certain people with decision making power in London and other local markets actually think this stuff means something. So, surf on over to http://www.londonmusicawards.com, click on 'voting', and vote for Ruth's Hat in 'Pop/Rock' and our drummer’s other band Staylefish in 'Beyond Category'. Use a valid email address because the LMA voting program will confirm your vote via email. A confirmation message will be sent to you in which you simply have to click a link to make your vote official. Make sure you don't miss it in your junk/spam folder. If you have more one email address, vote more than once! In fact, vote as many times as you have emails! We know that’s what everyone else is doing.

Also, take another 30 seconds and go vote for us here in the 'Punk/Hardcore' category for the Jack Richardson music awards at http://thejackrichardsonmusicawards.com/ballot1.htm. Yeah, we're 'Punk/Hardcore'. Same deal here…if you have multiple phone numbers, pump a bunch of names and numbers in. As long as they are all valid, they should all count. A couple of my students put their whole phone book from their cell phone in there. Sounds like a good idea to me.>>

hey Joe,

Great vid. Those waves look decent. The Great Lakes Surfers have a site that I'm sure most of you have seen. It's a sersious cult...the Great Lakes Surfing clan. Check out the site if you haven't been there. It's pretty sweet. It's almost as cool as learntokite.

http://lakesurf.com

Looking foward to the party in Detroit this Saturday. Ya'll should be going to that one. Joe's giving out lap dances to the first 10 through the door...women or men!

Hey Guys,

Tons of great info on picking the right snowboard for kiting! I haven't done a whole lot on the snow yet so this stuff is very helpful. I did wanna throw my two cents in on bindings. With the little kitesnowboarding that I have done, I think that step-in bindings would be a bad idea for kiting because of the reduced flexibility as a result of both the stiffer boots and being fixed to an exact point on the board. Kiting, you're going to want the same amount of freedom as a half-pipe rider. You usally won't see those guys running step-ins.

Cheers,
Mike Sloan

Yeah, I guess he was probably in the chicken loop. Even if he let go, he would have been screwed if he didn't release the loop. I suppose in a situation like that it would be pretty tough to think to pull the loop. I haven't pulled mine once since I got my Boxers and I've been out on them 50+ times. Kinda makes me think this could happen to anyone with the wrong conditions, not just beginners. Good points on the safety here Steve. Rock the safe kiting.

Oh yeah, Ruth's Hat gets the girls! You may see more downtown punk chicks at Alvin's than college girls. They're one of a kind and sure to love the kiters! Mike

Once again, I was blown away by the ability of the Florida crew to rock these light winds. That's two years in a row a Florida boy has walked away with the KOGL title. Hurdman was definitely going off...in no more than 12 knots. Canada still took a spot in the top 3 though...cheers Mike! Hey Steve, way to go on another great KOGL. Mike Sloan.

If any of you are in the Detroit area, my band Ruth's Hat (see http://ruthshat.com to listen to songs) is playing Alvin's in Detroit on 5750 Cass this Saturday, Sept 18. This is definitely one of the nicest areas of the city affectionately referred to as the ‘Cass Corridor’. The show starts at 8PM and we play at 9PM to open for some other acts. Our music combines 50s rock and roll and punk rock: Buddy Holly on Speed. It would be great to see some kiters rockin’ the joint on Saturday. Cheers, Mike Sloan.

Hey Joe,

From the way it looks, I'm not sure if it's appropriate for non-residents of the city to send a letter. However, I'm gonna send one anyway and leave out my address. It can't hurt. I think everyone should do this even if they don't live in Chicago. I'll spread the word.

Good talk on the pink kite! Man, that thing has been around. A lot has changed in the sport of kiteboarding since then eh? And Tim has been there the whole time...wow. They do still make pink kites...I saw a bunch of them in Maui. Most of them were 'Pussy Kites'. Yep, that's right...an Italian company making kites has actually called themselves 'Pussy Kite'. They're designing all of their products for female riders. I'm assuming the word 'pussy' comes from pussy cat and is meant to create a female feel because girls are kittens or something like that. However, that's just an assumption! Who knows who thought that one up. Let's get some Pussy Kites out out Metro!

Tim Blanchard used to fly this super cool pink kite. He flew it for years. It was really pink. Where has that thing been since it left Tim? Are the Great Lakes still blessed with the pink kite? I think we should start a news column all about the pink kite!
