Duckhunter made a visit to Ohio today. It was nice of Safety Rick to coach him on the current conditions before heading out.

Skims are the way to go if you are looking for an economical light wind solution. Large surface area and flat. Good way to start to learn strapless ollies, jibes etc. Cheap.

The lightwind specific boards (doors, wings, etc) are essentially elongated skims with footstraps. Great if you are into mowing the lawn and doing 4 foot dingle dangles to wow beach goers and brag about lightwind statistics. Complete with $600-$800 price tag.

Surfboards aren't as lightwind friendly as most people think, especially if your back foot is towards the tail of the board where the footstrap holes are located. Strapless you can ride further forward but I'd still take a skim over surfboard for pushing low wind ability.

SUPs are big. I was able to get mine on plane on the Hatteras sound, but was lit 9M. Can't imagine it being much fun in Lake Michigan chop.

Other option are the race specific boards. Big, flat and a big skag to head upwind. These are fairly new in development. I've never ridden one.

That being said, I have a 2011 LF Kitefish sitting in my closet still wrapped in plastic looking for an owner. I picked it up when it came out to start getting into strapless/lightwind, before I got to use it I ended up blowing out my knee at a cable park. Refocusing to strapless surf so invested in a kite specific surfboard.

PM me if you are interested.

Nice job!

- I'm in for the 'inseconds' option. The initial goes away too fast and having to dismiss the data dialog is a bit of a hassle imo.

- Agree that additional sites would be nice to have. I can give you the preferred Lake Erie ones if you would like.

- Adding the wind direction in letter direction and also degrees would be nice.

One thing I'd like to see in the future would be the history. An idea would be on short tap quick display of current data. Long tap, brings up last x number of data logs in the data dialog screen.

Can't wait to see updates!

Hans, Chris and I went WAAAYYYY upwind and sailed inside the harbor. I got to show off in front of the passengers of the Nautica Queen!

This seems like a good way to draw all sorts of unnecessary attention from quite a few institutions who like to impose rules and regulations at any chance they get. i.e. FAA, Coast Guard, Harbor Master

Practice your upwinders at Headlands.

Not sure what that has to do with boardshorts.....

....but the forum might benefit from your personal knowledge gained at Headlands.

That is for the Shorts / No Shorts debate.

wolfman - I put together a quick how-to that might help out everyone on the quest to unhook....even though it is hooked in....

http://www.flickr.com/photos/j_t_h/4500444043/

wakeboarding wouldn't be a bad idea for the arm strength, but kiting unhooked is only for a few seconds at a time, not 15 mins. the tricks are much harder behind a boat, but the load and pop is similar.

i'm not so sure about the shoulder injury being a problem. mine was pretty badly dislocated in november (biking). been testing it out with pull ups and that hasn't been a problem. never had a problem with it behind a kite.

Get your canoes out.

Starting to look good for a saturday night camp out on the sandbar. See how many carp are lodged up in the glory hole this spring. Shallow water temps should be pretty nice after today and tomorrow.

Hit Presque Isle in Erie, PA on south winds. Conneaut on WSW to NE. You'll find some people from Pittsburg at those spots. Especially once it starts warming up a bit.
