Thought I should mention this on here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUb-vPRT7DY&sns=fb

Not the final version, but it's a fun sample if you're missing snow already, or if you're bored waiting for the liquid stuff..

Hahaha, hurray! Freezing nuts I'm not worried about (got a toasty 0* bag); Brazilian barking frogs on the other hand...

Gotta get some glitches worked out with the blog in adding pictures from my phone, and then actually posting some more useful stuff on there. Still, I don't know what to do about the barking frogs... blink.gif

Peace ma homies.

For those that like to hike and are not going on the GLK Hatteras trip this year, I'll be backpacking from Lake Huron (Oscoda or Tawas) across the state to the town of Empire on Lake Michigan. There is a primitive hiking/horse riding trail, conveniently known as the Michigan Shore-to-Shore Trail, that goes from the shore of Lake Huron (cuts through the Huron National Forest) and runs across the state, just south of Traverse City to the shore of Lake Michigan (about 220 miles). Camping is all free (state/federal land), though the hike does follow some roads and two-tracks especially West of I75.

I plan on leaving on April 1st and heading West. If you want to join me, common out I could use your company..maybe even some kiting at either end...if her heiness, Ms. Windy, agrees. There's very little info about the trail online, so this is also a sort of scouting trip. If you think you kight be down even for a short portion of it, shoot me a text.

Here's my blog that I started on it, and I'll add more stuff as I go along (bringing a solar charger and iPhone):

Man, you are one crazy bastard! But gotta admit, I wish I'd been there too!

Dude! I think I know where that is, though when I saw it I was on skiis. Blue Lagoon is open, though you have to get a ways out..we got an excellent last ride on the snow about 10 days ago, so I suspect it should be fully rideable soon.

Any words on Metro? I'm giddy for that first ride.

We are planning on getting a little group from MI to come over Sunday. Give me a call/txt if you have any suggestions of spots, or if you want to meet up.

I have no opposition to your beer and get together season--but lets have some more intermingling with the riding season. You must have gotten there really early, I had a joooooosy 14m session form about 3:30-dark. The thermal kicked in hard! [with the exception of the water which was borderlining on "numb-in-3min-of-riding-without-booties" *C]

Don't count the season over yet, but the beer and friends sure do help more around this time...

Hi, I might try the Hoffmaster State Park in Muskegon Friday night. It's pretty booked up but there are some open spots for the Friday night.

PM me for telephone #

Michael

MikeyB, you're English Michael! laugh.gif OK! Hoffmaster is great..only a few tent sites, but this state park actually has trees (unlike the rest in MI.). Cheers!

Hello,

I left my board in the muck at Metro last night (Wed, Sept 1st). It's a red, Best 'Spark' measuring 140cms in length. Unless it was engulfed/digested by Metro's chemicals, if any of ya'll folks that left after me (German Mike, etc.) picked it up please let me know (586)604-7445. Please. Gracias.

Hey!
I'm from the Detroit metro area. I'm heading to Lion's Head, ON this coming WE for a rock climbing trip. It's supposed to be windy too, so I checked kitesurfing spots in that area. I found out about Sauble Beach in the following article
http://kiteboardingmag.com/features/2010/0...ontario-canada/

Anybody knows that area? Any advise, comment etc?...
Thanks, Julien

Merdre! You lucky Frenchmen! I have quite a bit of info about the area, but it might be a bit late for you to read now. They actually have laws in place and have been working a lot with the govt. this year to find a balance with the kiters. Here is a thread with the latest regulations from the spring:

We sessioned hard for about 3hrs. The ice cleared up as the NE blew it down the beach, and the temperature was not much worse than most late fall days. The hardest thing was probably changing out of our wetsuits at the end of the session in the rain. Otherwise, I'm waiting for some warm sunnies at Metro coming up biggrin.gif .

I've been having a great winter snowkiting the hay fields of West Michigan. As a long time skier and snowboarder, finding the untracked powder is what it's about. There's nothing like gliding across the untracked expanses of hay fields. I like frozen lakes too, but it's always eerie to hear the ice creak and groan.

Every time we go for a drive, I'm on the look for those huge open fields...gives one a new way to imagine Michigan agriculture...food in the summer...fresh pow in the winter!

Haha, I like that mentality. That could become a staple way of looking at things in the future, so lets enjoy this solitude...

Wolfman,

talk to Tim and the Canadians. I know from childhood that the London area usually gets hit huge when Windsor is dry. But 402 from the bluewater bridge is a better choice if you want to go inland. It's a lot closer to the path of Lk. Huron's lake effect snowbelt (doubt St Clair has any lake efect snow right now...) The poutine also gets better the farther East you go..

Wolfie, good to still hear from you. It's been too long since I've seen you brother, but with this snow, I don't doubt that I'll see you again soon. (do you stil have your old snowkites, I need a new one...)

Dudes, hope to join you all in the next couple of days. Much love to the snow!
