Kite U.S. Forums _ Northern Michigan _ Snow kite season opener

We now have snow and tomorrow looks to be opening day. We have over a foot of snow and its still snowing today. we have a dense base because it snowed then rained and back to snow on sunday. If we don't make it out tomorrow we'll be out this weekend for sure.

Our lakes aren't safely frozen yet but we do have a few spots of farmland that we can use. I'll also be scouting new spots as we find them. Unfortunately its hard to get permission to use private land and most public lands are all wooded. Several lakes have iced over and I'll post reports as they become safe to use.

If the snow stays and there is not any here in Metro Detroit I will stop in for a visit early next week.

Keep me posted on the conditions. tongue.gif

Seasons OPEN!!! I scored a little farmland session this afternoon. Perfect day, but not much wind. I had to quit when it dropped under 4mph. but in 6-10 I was having a blast on my SA2 19m.

We are planning on heading out this weekend for some more. We have good snow cover but few places to go. So I can't tell you were you can ride, you'll have to poach on your own. But if you want to kite head North

I got another session today. We have our first confirmed frozen lake in the area. Little Glen Lake has 4-8" inches of ice. The snow cover is limited and the lake has tall dunes on 3 sides but we have lake action.

My Silver Arrow is worth every penny, it saved another session today. All sub 10mph winds and I was still cruising all over the lake.

I have pictures and will get them posted soon.
