Just a reminder to have a look at the JAVA TOOL for the Aviation
Digital Data Service. This provides a Map display of the airports in
the area with real time wind and weather reports.

http://adds.aviationweather.noaa.gov/metars/java/

Allow the full map of the United States to load up, then "drag" a
square over the region you want to zoom in on. Then click the
following settings below the map: Temp, Weather, SkyCover, Wind,
Station ID, and under METARs: click on ALL (all stations).

If you glide over a station with the mouse, the full METAR will be
displayed. Otherwise a graphic of a little flag is displayed, the
flag points to the direction the wind is comming from. The little
barbs are 10 knots for a full one, and 5 for a half barb.

The rest of the ADDS site is full of useful weather tools. TAF and METAR reports give hourly real time and fct weather. Learning to decode them is fairly easy. If you follow the links there is a decoder and also a list of reporting sites around the world.

Have fun with this useful tool.

Cool tool!

Can you give us an example of the raw data and the decoded information that you find useful?
