Kite U.S. Forums _ Knowledge Center _ Depower For Room For Error

Riding in onshore wind can be a sketchy proposition and should be avoided if possible but if you do find yourself riding parralel to the coastline this is a small step that can help you stay out of trouble. When riding powered in onshore winds, anytime I get within 2 kiteline lengths of land I almost completely depower my kite at the trim strap while in the chickenloop. To compensate for power or turning speed I often am pulling my bar in all the way. This gives me the security of immediate depower at the bar in case of a big ol' gust. Personally this is especially applicable at Metro Beach. A little forethought can go a long way when a big blast creeps up quick.
