Kite U.S. Forums _ Water _ Gulf Shores Alabama Kiteboarding Overview

Well, I scored a nice 12M Ocean session on Easter Sunday here in Gulf Shores Alabama. Not sure why there is not a big community here, but this place is sweet.

The Gulf Shores, AL Sports and Recreation Department sent me an email that is was OK to kiteboard at any public beach just stay away from beach goers. The water is waist to neck high for good way out so landing the kite in the water and not on the beach is a bonus. The water temp of the gulf in April is 70 degrees and with 70 degree air it makes for a nice Spring Break.

There was one other kite up on the beach with a guy beach jumping and no board to be seen. Not a real safe situation as we all know, but at least there was no one downind of him. We have some beach jumping stories with broken heels and legs that would change that guys mind about it, but I did not venture down to be the kite police.

While I was riding anther guy pumped up a Cabrinha 11M and joined me, so that was cool.

It looks like Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Alabama have state beaches that appear to be wide open. I just rode in front of our condo, but I would think down winders and riding at these state beaches would rock.

Ridable directions for where I was at and most of the strip is; Best = SE and SW, South is onshore, ESE and WSW would work and I rode in a ESE and E. East and West is sidewhore and not bad, but anything North is offshore.
